All Visible Planets Observable – Software Update

All five visible planets now appear in the night sky. JPL’s Myles Standish, creator of the DE405 ephemeris used for numerous space missions, has said this current configuration will probably give the best viewing conditions for all visible planets (plus the Moon) until the year 2036. To make finding the planets easier, ephemeris.com (http://www.ephemeris.com) has added Azimuth and Elevation for topocentric coordinates (Latitude, Longitude, and Height) to their ephemeris page, at

This online ephemeris is free.

The ephemeris currently shows positions of the major planets, Chiron, Quaoar, and Sedna for 1900-2100.

Information for the major planets is from JPL’s DE405 ephemeris. Chiron, Quaoar, and Sedna are computed from the Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics orbital elements for those bodies.
